WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
We'd like to welcome new members Millie Gibbons and Sylvia Ritter. They both seemed to have a rudimentary knowledge of bridge and quickly fit into the group.
WEBSITE LAUNCHED!
This should be a good way for everyone to check what is going on and where it is happening! I had a great time creating the website and it is still a work-in-progress providing hours of 'dittering' fun for me as I learn HTML and all tricks to making tables, borders, links and graphics. The website has a link showing directions to both the Greens and the Woods, a calendar link to show the schedule for the month, current and previous newsletters. Click on any image or logo to be transported to a new window. A really useful link is the FREE "Learn to Play Bridge" link at the bottom right. It is the best program for learning to play - you DO NOT have to be an ACBL member and you don't even have to give them an email address! After you download it, you do not need to be on the internet to play and learn. Thanks to Carol for the 'fifth chair' suggestion - I linked a lesson that looked good for beginners to it. Please email me if you notice any spelling errors, or if any of the links don't work.
For now the URL will be: http://members.cox.net/eastlake.bridge.club
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
We met at the Eastlake Greens Clubhouse so preparation and "folding up" afterwards was much easier. We will be meeting at the Woods Clubhouse the first two weeks of the month and the Eastlake Greens Clubhouse on the last two weeks of the month. Continue to check the calendar on a regular basis in case there are any changes.
OVERCALLS
This week we took a cursory look at Overcalls - when to overcall and how to respond when partner bids. We played 6 hands and reviewed the scoring of them. Everyone is coming along just great but the most important part is we're having fun, eating good food and meeting other people who have a desire to learn. I will be holding sepaarate workshops to go more in depth on such topics in the future.
MEMBER VACATIONS
I had a busy week flying to Indiana to help my daughter find living accomodation in Lafayette, IN. There was a bridge club on campus but due to the long weekend I didn't get a chance to meet anyone. Jim will be off to the Hawaiin Islands for two weeks and Joan will be gone for the next two weeks as well. We'll try to find appropriate dummies to replace them :-).
Remember: Take all your tricks (and some of theirs).
Hope to see you all on Wednesday.
